Kasbah

Kasbah (Agadir) — perched atop a steep hill in Agadir’s oldest district is the Kasbah, a set of fortifications built in 1541. In spite of its age, the Kasbah was one of the few buildings not to be leveled by the earthquake of 1960 (which destroyed most of the city of Agadir at that time). Having once been home to hundreds of people, all that remains now is the outer wall, and the land it encloses is no longer hospitable. Nowadays there are two main reasons for hiking up to it: firstly, it’s an impressive example of medieval Arabic architecture and secondly, the view it offers over the rest of the city is awesome.

Note: those who are not in top physical shape can take a taxi ride to the top of this hill (100 Dhm. or US$10.).
