La Plage Rouge (Route de l Ourika – km 10, Marrakech) — there are other pool lounges in Marrakech, but this is the youngest and most popular with locals. Located 10 km outside of Marrakech on a little-traveled road, the location feels like a scene in a Hollywood movie complete with camels and desert mirage. Already known as a desert party city, this sand-edged water theme pool club was once the hottest thing in the desert.
The all-day pool lounge features mattress rental, bar service and international deejays spinning under the piercing desert sun. The 80-meter sunken-sand swimming pool is arranged with oversized loungers offering towel and water service by sexy model-cum-waiter staff. Well-oiled figures spend the day basting by the pool while snacking on a light mix of fusion food and icy cocktails. With such a setting, it’s difficult to force yourself indoors where there was once an even dressier main dining room by the owners of 3-star Michelin Montpellier and Paris-based restaurants.
